This role represents a distinctive blend of Sales, Project Management, Technical Support, and Practical Technical Engagement, which we categorise as a "hybrid" position. We seek a candidate who is a proactive self-starter, possesses strong organisational skills, and thrives in a role that encompasses the full spectrum of project execution—from initial sales to project management and technical assistance, whether through direct hands-on involvement or software-related support.

The Automation department is comprised of five distinct sections. To ensure overall growth and development, it is crucial to maintain a commitment to the advancement and enhancement of all five departments.

Sales

The Technical Sales position is responsible for developing and growing strategic customers. This role demands a proactive and strategic approach to expanding Hyspecs Automation & Control's market presence and ensuring sustained growth through effective business development strategies. We seek an accomplished, hands-on sales professional with a demonstrated history of nurturing strong relationships with partners and customers.

  • Identify, plan, and develop new customer opportunities and contacts at key growth accounts within the assigned territory and channel partners.
  • Sales and support of all Automation products, including Automation and electrification, linear technology, Assembly Technology, Cobots and Tightening Tools.
  • Able to review customer applications and work with the Automation and Electrical Team to propose the best solution.
  • Determine pricing offered to direct customers and work with channel partners on pricing, including special pricing agreements.
  • Provide input to Hyspecs' sales management, product management, and customer support teams on sales policies, pricing, market growth and trends, competitive information, and sales initiatives.
  • Able to make technical presentations and conduct basic product training when needed.
  • Assist Hyspecs Automation & Controls in driving the specification process and supporting growth at defined accounts.
  • Provide regular reporting activities through CRM for account activity, opportunities, quotations, account development, etc.
  • Provide reports, as required, in a timely fashion (i.e., expense reports, business plans, etc.).
  • Participate in sales meetings, training sessions, trade show exhibits, etc., as required.
  • Participate in special assignments, as required.
  • Travelling within New Zealand to see customers.

Project Management

  • Lead project planning using Asana and review sessions
  • Estimate project costs and manage the budget.
  • Produce and update all project documentation.
  • Manage communication and relationships with customers.
  • Oversee the procurement, supply and allocation of project resources.
  • Manage the project delivery timeline.
  • Working hand in hand with the design department to offer the customer complete designs for the project.

Hands-On Assistance

  • Understanding and willingness to wire PLCs, Drives, Motors and Controllers – Automation and Electrification.
  • Understanding and willingness to assemble multi-axis gantry systems – Linear Motion Technology.
  • Understanding and willingness to program tightening controllers and install tightening tools – Tightening Technology.
  • Understanding and willingness to program and assist with installing Robots – Cobots.

Qualifications

  • Technical Qualification or an Engineering degree and an understanding of electromechanical principles are required.
  • Preferable 5 years of sales, hands-on and technical experience.
  • Knowledge of the Automation and Electrification products (PLC, motion controls, HMI, I/O, computing, software solutions, etc.) and machine applications encountered within Factory Automation is required.
  • Must be capable of working with tools.
  • Demonstrates ability to develop and execute successful sales strategies and project management to drive profitable growth.
  • Clear understanding of sales processes and project management
  • Fast learner who can understand complex technical issues and effectively communicate relevant specifics to non-technical customers.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Capable of conducting technical and sales presentations to key clients
  • Works well in a team environment as well as independently
  • Necessary time management skills to handle multiple enquiries and deliver projects on time.
